Amazon just announced their first cellphone product: The Amazon Fire Phone today. Its scheduled released date is July 25th, 2014 but it can be pre-ordered now. The e-commerce giant’s smartphone ranges in price from $199 with an AT&T contract to $649 if you purchase it unlocked- without a plan.
The Amazon Fire Phone is a 32GB smartphone and the only smartphone with what Amazon terms dynamic perspective, Firefly technology and Mayday. Dynamic perspective offers a new way to navigate with tilt, auto-scroll, swivel and peek to navigate menus and access shortcuts with just one hand. Dynamic perspective means when you turn the phone, the phone environment changes and when you’re reading you can move the phone and the page will scroll down. The maps app lets you move the phone and look around a city.
Plus, it offers an Amazon shipping App where you can see detailed views of clothing, shoes and more on Amazon.com. Firefly technology is the ability to quickly identify printed web contact info such as email addresses and phone numbers, QR codes, bar codes and over 100 million items by pressing a button. So you can take a picture of a book and Amazon will find it for you online. Mayday is free, live, on-device video chat support with an Amazon support expert 24/7, 365. Wow!
Free Amazon Prime Included – for a limited time.
If you aren’t yet familiar with Amazon’s Prime you should check it out. Prime lets you get free 2-day shipping or overnight shipping on Prime elligible items for just $3.99. Plus Prime gives you access to thousands of popular movies and TV episodes with Prime Instant Video, over one million songs and hundreds of playlists with the all-new Prime Music, over 500,000 books to borrow for free with the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library. Wow!? I have Prime and I didn’t even realize all of that entertainment was included. So go check it out!
The Camera Looks AMAZING
One reason I love the iPhone is for the pictures I’ve been able to take with it and I haven’t wanted to switch to any other phone, but now this may convince me to change…
The advanced camera system boasts an optical image stabilization system with 13MP, 1080p video and free unlimited photo storage in the cloud.
The Amazon Appstore gives you access to thousands of Android apps. Yes- the Amazon Fire Phone runs on Android.
Powered by Android – this Smartphone will have A 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, combined with 2GB of RAM, enables faster app launch times, quicker website load times, and “smoother” multi-tasking.
Tired of your smartphone battery always dying?
Amazon boasts 285 hours of standby time, up to 22 hours of talk time, 65 hours of audio playback and up to 11 hours of video playback. Whoa. Combine that with a juice pack and you may be able to go a week without plugging in that phone.
Work life integrated:
Review docs, presentations, and stay connected to work from wherever you are. Fire OS features a robust Outlook e-mail experience with ActiveSync, calendar, and contacts support. Triage email, view appointments, and more directly from the home screen. Tilt to see meeting details in calendar, or tap to send a quick message to meeting recipients. Not bad!
