Treat Yourself to a Leather Jacket

I have always loved leather jackets, so I was so happy to see that DealDash often puts high quality women’s and men’s lambskin leather jackets for sale.

Perhaps you looked at the price tag and thought you would never be able to win a leather jacket with a BIN of $3,400.00 (for women) or $3,600.00 (for men). That’s what I thought at first, too. But if you look again and see what awesome deals some previous winners have already received, you might change your mind.

A row of worn brown and black leather jackets hang in a row.
A high quality leather jacket can be a part of your wardrobe for years and years.

For example, just this past March 3, this lambskin women’s jacket closed for only $2.92 and the winner only payed a total of $15.52 (counting the cost of the 63 bids placed). We could never get a better deal for a high-end butter-soft lambskin jacket than that even if we shopped in a discount store.

Of course, we don’t always win an auction the first time we try. Sometimes we have to consistently bid in the same auction every time it goes up for sale because it might be a matter of being in the right auction at the right time. That’s what I did. I placed a certain number of bids in this auction several times, and I eventually won it.

One thing I should caution shoppers about, however, is that the size of the women’s jacket runs extremely small, so you might want to bid on one or two sizes larger than you normally take to get one that fits. I went up a full size and it’s still too tight to even put on, so I think it would be better to go up two full sizes. I hope if I lose enough weight I’ll be able to wear it someday. If you read the reviews of this jacket, several previous winners mention how small this jacket runs, too. Sometimes sizes vary greatly depending on where the items are made. I have discovered that clothing made in China, for example, often run small. Perhaps because many Chinese people tend to have small frames and wear smaller sizes than most American people. Therefore, if we are not sure if an item will fit, it might be a good idea to contact customer service to get more specific measurement information.

According to the DealDash this jacket can be paired with dressy or casual ensembles alike, and having that kind of versatility is always nice. The outer shell of the jacket is 100 percent lambskin leather and the inside lining is 100 percent polyester. It must be cleaned by leather specialists only.  For more specific details, please see the auction description.

A brief history of leather jackets

Leather jackets have had an exciting journey.

In the early 1900s, during World War I, German fighter pilots began wearing brown leather jackets, and later, during World War II it became known as the bomber jacket. The bomber jacket soon became synonymous with the flight jacket and the aviator jacket. The warm bomber jacket was a convenient and sensible choice for pilots who were exposed to extreme cold at high altitudes and soon became part of the military uniform.

In 1928, the leather jacket was introduced to the fashion world. The fashion skyrocketed when Hollywood actor Marlon Brando wore a leather motorcycle jacket in the film The Wild One when he was portrayed as a dangerous, but sexy, gang member with a great sense of dress. Other stars like Steve McQueen and the Beetles quickly adopted the fashion and leather jackets became synonymous with rock and roll.

It wasn’t until the 1970s and 1980s that leather jackets for women appeared on the fashion scene. Female musicians such as Blondie and Joan Jett were among the first women to make leather jackets acceptable for women as well. Since then many supermodels have adopted leather jackets as part of their fashion and we soon saw them appearing in many colors.

The bottom line

If you stick with it and place some bids in each and every leather jacket auction, you will most likely eventually win. Sometimes it’s just a matter of time and shopping at the right time.

Happy shopping everyone!

Beautiful Chandeliers

Did you notice the beautiful chandeliers going up for auction on DealDash.com? If you could use a new chandelier, now is a good time to shop for one.

I had an old chandelier that was hanging near my front door above my stairs and it was really heavy. It was also very difficult to change burned out light bulbs or to clean it because of the way it was made. The bulbs were behind panels so they were hard to get at. One day when I was attempting to install a new light bulb, the chain that held it up broke and it was left hanging by the electrical wires only. I was so concerned that it might start a house fire so I ran to my neighbor for help.

Chandeliers hang proudly in a formal dining room.
A beautiful chandelier can be the star of the room.

My neighbor managed to use the remaining good parts of the chain to hang it back up, but I knew then that it was time for me to start shopping for a new chandelier. We don’t always think of replacing permanent fixtures in a house like a chandelier but when they get too old the chain can become brittle and just snap in half, like mine did. That could become very risky, too, especially if something like that happens when someone is standing under it.

Three important things I look for in a new chandelier are:

  1. Is it easy to reach to change the light bulbs? At age 75, I want to avoid climbing high ladders.
  2. Does it weigh too much? I don’t like big, heavy chandeliers but prefer a chandelier that is a little more on the light side.
  3. Does it look good? Perhaps it’s time to update our chandeliers for a more modern appearance.

I started looking at some of the chandeliers that have already been sold on DealDash and I was shocked – not just surprised, but shocked – when I saw some of the outstanding deals that some DealDash shoppers have already received.

For example, one three-tier chandelier with a total of 21 lights with a BIN of  a whopping $9,000 but one shopper won it for a total of only $81.28 (counting the cost of the 374 bids used). That’s more than a deal – that’s a steal of a deal.

Outstanding deals

Let’s take a look at some of the other chandelier deals that DealDash shoppers are getting.

  • A nine-light chandelier with a BIN of 720, sold for $59.63 (counting the cost of the 242 bids placed).
  • An eight-light pendant chandelier with a BIN of $1,649 sold for $75.47 (counting the cost of the 324 bids placed).
  • A three-light chandelier with a crystal and black butterfly shade has a BIN of $725, but on March 4 it sold for only $2.25 (counting the cost of the 9 bids placed to win it).
  • A six-light hanging pendant chandelier with a BIN of $829 sold for $17.62 (including the cost of the 89 bids placed).
  • A nine-light hanging chandelier with a BIN of $1,200 sold for $244.81 (including the cost of the 1,207 bids placed to win it).

For specific features, specifications, dimensions and electrical information please see the auction descriptions.

Many more chandeliers will soon be coming up for auction, too, so keep watching for the kind of chandelier you would like to see in your house because you most likely would never be able to beat deals like the ones on DealDash.com.

The Latest and Greatest Snowmobile

How would you like to win the latest and greatest snowmobile ever? Well, now is your chance to shop for a snow mobile with a BIN of $16,000 on DealDash.com.

This machine has skis in the front and caterpillar-like treads in the back, and it looks like it’s made to handle getting through the worst snow banks we could imagine. It is definitely a deep snow machine like no other.

Just like all of the vehicle and boat auctions, this snow mobile has no new bidders after the auction reaches $1,000. You can start shopping for this snow machine auction, which I never before saw on DealDash, on Sunday, Feb. 27. Most likely, this auction will still be running strong on Monday, Feb. 28, so it’s probably not too late yet for everyone reading this blog to check it out. I know if I lived in snow country I sure would like to own a snowmobile like this one.

For detailed specifications please see the auction description. According to the note at the end of the DealDash description, it is important for all shoppers to know that as a result of high demand, logistics challenges and the global shortage of supplies, this snowmobile may not be exactly as shown. DealDash states “a logistics surcharge of $400 may be added to the displayed price. The price may not always include accessory installation costs, and according to the winner’s geographic position, tax, title, license, transport, preparation and other fees may not be included. Dealer prices may vary.”

The history of snowmobiles

A snowmobile is an automotive vehicle for travel on snow. It is steered by skis at the front and is propelled by a belt of track at the back.

It is a little confusing as to who actually invented the first snowmobile. However, Joseph-Armand Bombardier is generally given credit for making the first snowmobile at the young age of 15 in 1922. In 1937, at the age of 30, Bombardier had already achieved his first major commercial success with the launch of the seven-passenger B7 snowmobile.

Snowmobiles have come a long way over the years!

According to my research, the concept took a leap forward in 1924 when Earl Eliason created what was known as a motorized toboggan. In the 1920s, Eliason mounted a two-cylinder motorcycle engine to a long sled and steered it with skis at the front, and propelled it with single endless track. In fact, Eliason made 40 of these snowmobiles and patented them in 1927. Other versions of snowmobiles have actually been around since 1910. So there were many predecessors paving the way to Bombardier’s first snowmobile.

Modern snowmobiles, as we know them today, did not become popular until the mid-1970s when people began to use them as recreational vehicles. At this time, there were more than 100 snowmobile manufacturers, each trying to improve the design.

The 2021 Yamaha Sidewinder SRX-LE , powered by a four-stroke 998 Genesis Turbo Engine generating in excess of 200 hp, became the fastest snowmobile. The speed of snowmobiles can range from 80 mph to 200 mph, depending on many factors, but most modern snowmobiles can reach speeds of 150 mph.

The differences between motorcycle helmets and snowmobile helmets are interesting. Snowmobile helmets have vents that riders can open or close to prevent fogging and snowmobile face shields have a double lens to resist fogging.

Bottom Line

Snowmobiles have definitely come a long way from its early beginnings, and now we have the awesome opportunity to shop for a good bargain on one of the best right here on DealDash.com.

Are You Nuts for Nuts?

Are you nuts for nuts? Do you love snacking on all kinds of nuts? Perhaps you love them all – walnuts, peanuts, cashews, or maybe almonds, too.

Well, guess what!  I just saw a really awesome porcelain nut server on DealDash.com. It even comes with its own nutcracker and holder for the nutcracker in the middle of the dish. So if you could use a good nut server you are shopping in the right place.

This auction has a BIN of $220 but so far all of the previous winners won it for much less than that.  One DealDash customer got it for only $18.01 including the cost of the 87 bids used to win it.

This nut server set has been made to last and will add an elegant look at your next party. It already has some customer reviews and it has earned an overall rating of 4.94 out of a possible 5. That tells us a lot about the high quality of the product when it has such high customer satisfaction.

History of nuts

Most nuts grow on trees and bushes, but some nuts (such as peanuts) grow underground. Most nuts (such as cashews) grow inside a soft casing that hardens into a shell.

According to my research, there are more than 53 types of nuts found in the world, but of the edible type, there are more than 20.

Nuts have been a staple in the human diet since the beginnings of history. The oldest walnut remains were discovered in Iraq, and they are believed to be from 50,000 B.C. The Greeks and Romans were fond of the walnut.

Healthy…tasty….and nice to look at, too!

In Texas, pecan shells were unearthed near human artifacts that may date back to 6,000 B.C., so it’s easy to see why nuts have been so popular through the ages.

The walnut was first cultivated in California by the Franciscan Fathers in the late 1700s, and the earliest walnuts to enter California were known as “mission” walnuts.

Cashews are native to northeastern Brazil, and Portuguese missionaries took them to East Africa and India during the late 16th century, where they became abundant at low altitudes near the seacoast. However, the oldest nut ever discovered is the Ginkgo, which is native to China. It is believed to have survived for about 150 million years.

Scientists have been able to point to Western Asia as the most likely place that almonds were first grown, but they were also most likely cultivated in China, too.

Great health benefits

Nuts are a good source of healthy fats, fiber and other beneficial nutrients. Nuts contain unsaturated fatty acids and other nutrients, and some nuts may be good for our heart. The six most healthful nuts listed are:

  1. Peanuts
  2. Almonds
  3. Pistachios
  4. Cashews
  5. Walnuts and
  6. Hazelnuts

Ounce for ounce, macadamia nuts and pecans (which are some of the best tasting nuts) are considered to be the worst nuts for our health because they have the most calories and the highest amounts of fats, while they have the lowest amounts of protein.

I was surprised to learn that cashews contain a natural toxin and are actually poisonous until they are roasted?

Nuts do have many benefits, however, because they are fairly inexpensive and are easy to store, pack and go wherever we go. One drawback to nuts, however, is that they are high in calories, so it’s important to limit portions.

Bottom line

If we are looking for a high-quality porcelain nut server that comes with a nutcracker, we might want to place some bids in the next auction. Who knows? You might be able to win the next great bargain!
