Labor Day Specials

Attention all DealDash.com lovers!

You will not want to miss shopping during the Labor Day specials from Sept. 4 to 10. DealDash will feature special Labor Day bid packs, and highlight some special items including a boat, a vacation auction and an automatic espresso machine.

Many people might not know what Labor Day is all about. When I was young and naïve I used to think Labor Day was in recognition of women for going through labor during childbirth. Of course, I was wrong, but why do we celebrate Labor Day?

Labor Day History

Labor Day was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century to pay tribute to American workers. It is a public holiday when schools and most businesses are closed. This year Labor Day is Sept. 6. In 2022 it will be Sept. 5 and in 2023 it will be Sept. 4. It is a typical tradition on Labor Day to wear red, white and blue in honor the colors in our American flag as well as our men and women in the armed forces.

On this special day off we honor the men and women who fought tirelessly for workers’ rights, especially the eight-hour work day we now have. In other words, Labor Day recognizes all of the many contributions and achievements hard-working Americans have made over past years up to present day America. But who started Labor Day?

A carpenter and labor union leader named Peter J. McGuire came up with the idea for Labor Day in 1882.  He thought American workers should be honored with their own day off, so he proposed his idea to New York’s Central Labor Union and they thought the holiday was a good idea, too.

It was not until June 28, 1894, however, that President Grover Cleveland signed a law to designate the first Monday in September each year as the national holiday we know as Labor Day. Cleveland reportedly did it as a peace offering following a deadly strike in Chicago when Federal troops brutally crushed a strike by railroad and Pullman sleeping car company workers, leaving 30 people dead.

Don’t Miss It

Regardless of how we choose to celebrate Labor Day we will not want to miss the many special shopping features on DealDash Sept. 4 to 10, so we should mark our calendars now so we will be sure not to miss it.

Winning a New Vehicle

Did you know 55 customers won a brand new vehicle on DealDash.com since October 2018?

You might wonder why anyone would want to shop for a new vehicle on DealDash. Wouldn’t it take an enormous number of bids to win such a high-dollar item? The answer to that question is, “Most times yes, but sometimes no.” So far, the best deal was a 2019 Nissan that sold for only $670.99 and the winner only used 633 bids.

DealDash has had 55 car auction winners

Some new vehicle winners got a fantastic deal using a relatively low number of bids while others did not. Just like any other auction, it’s a matter of bidding in the right vehicle auction at just the right time.

It appears that most of these brand new vehicles have a BIN price of $25,000.00 to $31,000.00 but some are more. Of course, a truck or a Tesla has a higher retail value.

If you are new and did not yet have the opportunity to participate in a vehicle auction, no sweat, you can still bet on one of the five new vehicles up for auction as of this writing – the Volkswagen, 4WD truck, one of the two Chevrolets or a Nissan. Each vehicle description includes detailed information under the headers of: Mechanical, Exterior, Interior, Safety, Dimensions and Fuel Efficiency.

To Bid or Not to Bid

Before placing bids on a new vehicle it’s important to know the following information upfront:

  • Winners are responsible for Tax, Title & Registration fees (for BIN/Dealership MSRP pricing) upon taking ownership of the vehicle
  • Images show options & trim packages that are not included
  • The vehicle must be signed for in person and collected from the local dealership within 14 days of confirmation of payment from DealDash to the dealer.

I cannot imagine anything more exciting than winning a brand new vehicle, especially for several thousand dollars less than the retail value. Nonetheless, winning a new vehicle takes some planning to ensure we have enough money to cover the closing cost, tax, title and registration. We each must figure out how much we can afford or if we could quickly get a loan to cover it.

If we are already in the market to purchase a brand new vehicle, that’s great.  If we have already been saving money to purchase a new vehicle, anyway, we might have everything to gain and nothing to lose by seriously bidding for a new vehicle on DealDash. If we win, you might SAVE several thousand dollars, and if we do not win, perhaps we could BIN?  But we should only bid on the make of vehicle that we really want to win because once we win a vehicle we cannot come back to win another one that we like better. Previous winners of other car auctions are not eligible to participate in this auction. One vehicle per customer makes it possible for more DealDash customers to have an opportunity to win a deal of a lifetime.

Even if we cannot afford to try to win a new vehicle ourselves, it might be a good idea to pay close attention to the screen names placing oodles of bids on them. Several previous winners placed more than 100,000 bids or more to win a vehicle. Therefore, if some players do not win but BIN that might mean they could get 100,000 bids or more back. Perhaps that might explain why some players appear to have an endless supply of bids when competing with us in other auctions. I don’t know about you, but I would not want to compete in the same auctions with anyone who has that kind of bidding power.

Early Shopping, Less Stress

Isn’t the year 2021 flying by quickly? We are nearing the end of August and before long we will experience back-to-back holidays – Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Is it any wonder we often get so stressed out by the time we put up decorations and wrap gifts?

Well, there’s no need to fear because DealDash.com is here. Perhaps we could enjoy this year’s holidays stress-free. Now that’s a novel idea. All we have to do is to start our shopping early. In fact, I have a true story to share with you how shopping on DealDash year ‘round has saved the day for me.

You see, as a single, senior citizen on a limited budget, I have been trying to save money to get some major dental work done, and we all know how expensive that can be. Add that to higher tax, double the cost for gasoline and higher prices for groceries, I was feeling the financial crunch as I’m sure many everyday hard-working Americans do. In fact, I thought  I might not be able to give my granddaughter much for Christmas this year. However, thanks to DealDash, I had a pleasant surprise.

You see, I had the habit of shopping on DealDash throughout the entire year. Whenever I won something I knew would make a nice gift, I usually put those items up on a closet shelf to wrap later on.

While I was cleaning and organizing some of my closet shelves recently I was happy to discover that I had several nice gifts I had put away for my granddaughter more than a year ago but I had forgotten all about them. So last year I bought other gifts for my granddaughter instead. Now that I found three more gifts – a huge artist kit, a label maker and a laptop stand (all items she could still use); my Christmas shopping is already done.

That’s right. Because I shopped on DealDash year ‘round I am now looking forward to a 2021 stress-free holiday season. Not only did I find gifts that I had put away for my granddaughter, but I also found gifts for nearly everyone else on my shopping list, too.

Beat Holiday Seasons

There are many reasons why it is a good idea to shop early and avoid the mad shopping rush during the holiday season.

Many of us are just now beginning to recover from closed businesses and lost jobs, and that’s all the more reason to shop on DealDash.com. If we look over all of the products DealDash has to offer we are sure to see something that would make an awesome gift for a family member or friend.

When we shop during the “off season” we might even find it easier to win various items at a bargain price. I’ve won many high-dollar items on DealDash I would not be able to buy at full price.

If we shop early, we can stay stress free and enjoy the upcoming holidays a lot more.

Less is more, more is less

What? How in the world could “less be more and more be less?”

I know this sounds ridiculous but when applied to DealDash.com and our own bidding habits this often proves to be true.

Many of us know that DealDash now has millions of customers, but to keep the math simple I will give you a ridiculously small example: Which way would DealDash make the most money? Would they make more money by selling 500 bid packs of 300 bids for $36 each or 100 bid packs of 300 bids for $60.00?  If five times more people bought bid packs on sale for less that means DealDash would actually make more for (charging) less.

This kind of thinking outside the box often works well for DealDash customers, too.  Let me give you an example. As a regular DealDash customer I’m using real data from this weekend just to prove this to you.

I decided to focus on the North Dakota 500 bid pack, which I bid on five times each and every time it came up for auction between yesterday and today before I finally won it.

  • The first time I placed 30 bids on it Friday, Aug. 13, and I could have (and should have) easily won it because it only had 21 competitors and it sold early at only $2.98. I messed up because I allowed myself to become distracted by a phone call and failed to return to the auction in time to add more bids. How many times have you made this mistake?
  • The second time the North Dakota 500 bid pack came up for auction, I was so determined to win it that I overbid and wasted 509 bids before I finally gave up. The winner of that auction overbid a lot more than I did and placed 594 bids to win the 500 bid pack. I made the mistake of competing with a competitor from one of two states I usually never compete with because those two states tend to have more than its fair share of stubborn, no-quitter over-bidders. I knew my one and only competitor was an over-bidder because I checked the “Winners’ List” and saw that same screen name consistently overbids to win. Therefore, I should have quit a lot sooner.
  • The third time I used 56 bids and I could have (and should have) won it because the winner of this auction only placed 17 bids. That irritates me when the winner of the auction placed fewer bids than I did. That hardly seems fair, does it?  But it was my fault because once again I allowed myself to become distracted. On the other hand, if I had been paying close attention to that auction I might have been tempted to back out of it because it had 109 competitors. It is highly unlikely for any auction to close early with that many shoppers in the auction, but this was an exception to that rule because it sold early for only $2.66.
  • The fourth time I joined the auction late, shortly before the “No New Bidders” banner popped up. I used 168 bids and I was about to add a lot more bids because I was one of the final two players. However, I quickly changed my mind and canceled all my bids, purposely letting my one and only competitor win. Why? I checked the “Winners’ List” and saw that my competitor had recently won a 1,000 bid pack so I knew she had a lot more bids to burn than I did. It made more sense for me to invest in another new auction than to try to battle it out with a shopper with all those bids … and I’m sure glad I did.
  • The fifth time I entered the North Dakota 500 bid pack I placed 100 bids and walked away to make dinner. When I returned to my computer a few minutes later I was so surprised and happy to see that I won this auction after using only 12 bids. It sold early for only $1.01 but because it was a 90 percent off feature I only had to pay 10 cents. Wow! What a deal! Walking away from my previous auction and placing my bids in the next auction instead was the right decision. If I had placed more bids in the fourth auction I would most likely have lost more bids and won nothing. By purposely letting my competitor win and starting a new auction, however, I ended up winning the next auction for only another 12 bids.

That certainly proves that if we are consistent and learn from our mistakes we can all become winners. It also proves that often times “More means less and less means more.”
