Winning Tips

I wasn’t going to do any shopping on DealDash.com today, but the daily challenge was to get three extra hours on the clock for placing 500 bids. Today’s Father’s Day feature also offered us 3X time on the clock for each bid. That was too good to turn down so I decided to go for it and I’m sure glad I did.

I just won a 691 bid pack using only 38 bids. Do you want to know how I did it?

Looking for trends

I usually place bids on smaller bid packs because they are often easier to win using a fewer bids. While I was checking out the Winners’ List, however, I noticed one larger bid pack of 691 bids sold early a couple times and the winners only used a small number of bids. It looked like a trend, so I decided to place some bids on the 691 bid pack, too, and it worked!

Sometimes other shoppers might be thinking alike. In this case it appeared shoppers were fiercely competing to win the smaller bid packs while the larger 691 bid pack was somewhat being ignored. Why? Many shoppers assume the larger bid packs that are more difficult to win. However, that’s not always true. In this case, it was easier to win the larger bid pack.

Below are more lessons I learned on how to win auctions using fewer bids.

The early bird catches the worm

When I was a child, my mother often told me, “The early bird catches the worm,” and I had no idea what she was talking about. Later in life I learned. That advice can work really well when shopping on DealDash, too.

Most shoppers place only one bid at the beginning of an auction so they will not get locked out from competing later on. Many of those shoppers get focused on other auctions and never return. Therefore, it’s a good idea to place more than one bid in the early part of an auction. Sometimes auctions suddenly sell and close earlier than shoppers anticipate. If we happened to be one of the few “early birds” that placed more than one bid during the early part of an auction, we can sometimes slip through the cracks and win early, too.

Know when to hold some bids for later

When six to eight shoppers are seriously competing for the win, it might not make sense to compete with that many. Instead, we can save a lot of bids by waiting until the auction looks like it will soon close because it’s down to only two or three other shoppers. If we look at the selling price for previous winners, we can often get a good idea when the time is right to jump in with a bunch of bids.

At that point, one of the following three things will likely happen:

  1. If our competitors joined the auction early and we joined the auction late, we might outbid our shopping opponents and win;
  2. If our final shopping opponents are “never quitters” who frequently overbid, we might have a better opportunity to win if we cancel our bids and place them in another duplicate auction instead;
  3. If we are one of the three final shoppers we might see one of our competitors drop out but as soon as one drops out, another one jumps in. That could happen several times and we never know how many “hold-out” shoppers planning to do the same thing. We can do a “test” to find out, but it’s a little risky when we’re one of only three shoppers. We could drop out temporarily to see if another shopper will jump in, but the auction could suddenly close if we do that. However, if someone else does jump in, we can save our bids until one drops out again. If not, we can quickly put our bids back in.

Many DealDash shoppers are pretty smart and have developed some excellent winning strategies. Regardless, that’s all part of the challenge that makes this kind of shopping so much fun, right?

Shopping for a Generator

Did you see the 4375/3500 RV-Ready Portable Generator on DealDash.com?

This generator, with a BIN of $532.00 includes a remote key Fob, engine oil, an oil funnel, and a wheel kit.

I’m sure we all think it’s a good idea to have a generator to power the essentials in our home in case we experience a power outage. We might think we mostly need a generator during winter months in case of downed power lines caused by winter storms. However, we could also experience a power outage during summer months, especially if we live in an area that gets lots of tornados. Therefore, if we live in a state that is included in the tornado belt, it would be a very good idea to own a good generator. However, this portable generator was made for summer vacation camping trips, too, especially since it has enough power to start and run a 15,000 BTU RV air conditioner.

The features of this generator

According to the auction description, some features of this portable generator include:

  • Wireless Remote State: We could start and stop this generator with ease from up to 80 feet away with the remote key fob – push-button power and convenience like never before.
  • Electric Start: The reliable 212cc Champion engine has a battery-included electric start that features a 3-way ignition switch, plus built-in Cold Start Technology for easy starts in cold weather.
  • The 4375 starting watts and 3500 running watts provides reliable power for up to 14 hours of run time on a full tank of gasoline with a noise level of 68 dBA from 23 feet.
  • All the outlets have covers for protection, and the built-in surge protector prevents overloads and keeps our appliances and equipment safe.
  • Champion Support includes a 3-year limited warranty with free lifetime technical support from dedicated experts.

After 65 customer reviews, this generator received an overall rating of 4.74 out of a possible 5.0 which is a fairly high rating. For more detailed information, see the auction description.

A brief history of generators

In 1831 Michael Faraday, an English scientist, invented the first electromagnetic generator in Britain. It wasn’t until the early 1900s, however, that generators became more common. Today’s design, called an engine-generator, incorporates the engine into the generator, forming an individual unit.

According to my research, the three basic types of generators are the whole house generators, portable generators and inverter generators. Inverter generators are ideal for camping, boating and other recreational activities. They operate quieter than other generators and provide power for lights, heaters, fans, radios, smart phones and more.

Generators lasted until the 1960s in most vehicles, but they weren’t very good at regulating voltage and had a reputation for overcharging batteries, and consequently damaging them. Alternators replaced DC generators in the 1960s because they were lighter, able to produce more power and proved to be more reliable. Alternators have a higher output than generators, and alternators use only the required amount of energy and thus, it conserves more energy.

Depending on the quality and size of your standby generator, most manufacturers usually predict that a standby generator will remain reliable anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 running hours or about 25 to 40 years, depending on how well it is maintained.

The bottom line

Generators have a long history, and today’s generators are better than ever. The generator now available on DealDash.com is a popular auction, so we better make sure we shop early and get our bids in on time.

Inventory Liquidation Shopping

What is inventory liquidation all about on DealDash.com?

The products DealDash puts up for auction are stored in warehouses and sometimes these warehouses get full, leaving little or no room to stock new products. Therefore, DealDash has selected some products to liquidate, and these items are designated with a blue box icon.

That means three things to DealDash shoppers:

  1. It means DealDash will want to move merchandise in a hurry, and to do that they will offer a special feature that might give us more opportunities to win some awesome bargains.
  2. I means the auctions designated with a blue-box -icon will no longer be available for auction when the inventory of these designated products run out, so we better focus on winning those products while we still can; and
  3. It means we can look forward to seeing more new and exciting products that DealDash never yet had available for auction.

I always look forward to seeing new products that I never before saw. To keep track of all of the new products coming in we can click on browse categories located directly under the header at the upper left of the home page. The first category on the list is New Items.

Auctions up for liquidation

If we want to win some of the items that are now up for liquidation, now is the time to start shopping for them.

Some products now up for liquidation are:

  • Eco-friendly, waterproof orange patched tarpaulin exterior tote bag with a BIN of $250.
  • Beach breathable white cotton shirt-dress size M, with a BIN of $240.
  • Morning essentials consisting of a stainless steel rechargeable salt & pepper grinder set, 2-slice toaster, and stainless steel electric beverage maker, with a BIN of $200.
  • Pillow sham set, Queen, with a BIN of $140.
  • Eyeshadow bundle, set of 12, with a BIN of $204.
  • Doll House, with a BIN of $920.
  • Bathroom set consisting of a set of 4 bathroom accessories, including a liquid dispenser, a cotton jar, a tumbler and a soap dish.
  • Pumpkin pet bed for a small cat or dog, with the BIN of $314.
  • Microfiber duvet cover for king/California king, with a BIN of $350.
  • Tactical cross-body bag, with a BIN of $200.
  • Cooking cover lid with filter, set of 10, with a BIN of $370

The above list is only some of the products that are designated for liquidation, and when they run out of stock these auctions will no longer be available for auction.

The bottom line

If you missed the Liquidation Week on DealDash.com don’t worry.  They might run another one before long. By going out with some old products and in with some new ones, DealDash keeps the auctions fresh and exciting.

I hope you have fun shopping, and I’ll see you in the auctions.

Happy Father’s Day

Question: What does Father’s Day and DealDash.com have in common?

Answer: DealDash is a great place to shop for awesome Father’s Day gifts.

I already suggested a sander with cast iron base, a men’s silk neck tie, cologne for men, and a digital electric smoker. What else could I find that would make an awesome Father’s Day gift? I could answer that question with another question: What do most men love to do most in their spare time? Answer: Play golf, of course. And what do men need besides golf clubs when they play? How about some snazzy and comfortable golf shirts?

Guess what? DealDash has the perfect auction that fills that need.

Men’s Golf Shirts

Yes, that’s right. This auction (with a BIN of $108) includes a full set of 4 men’s golf shirts in an assortment of 4 different colors – black, navy, slate blue and sage. These waffle knit golf shirts are constructed of 6.3-ouncs of 100 percent polyester, and features the Ultra Cool system to control and manage perspiration. According to the auction description, they are “accented with a narrow 3-button placket, self-fabric collar and cuffs and a square bottom with side vents.”  They also have a Khaki contrast piping along the inner back neck.

These shirts measure 27.5- inches in the chest, 23.5-inch sleeve length and 32.5-inches in body length.

After 20 customer reviews, these golf shirts received an overall rating of 4.94 out of a possible 5.0. One previous winner wrote: “My hubby loves these shirts.” Other winners wrote, “Wow! My husband loved them. (They are) true to size…” and “Great looking shirts.”

With positive feedback like that I decided to shop for these shirts as a gift for the special man in my life even though he has never been a father. He is learning how to play golf, though.

A Brief History of Father’s Day

America was the first country to celebrate Father’s Day.

The first Father’s Day was celebrated June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. However, it was not until 1972 — 58 years after President Woodrow Wilson made Mother’s Day official – the day honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United States.

Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, is usually credited for originating Father’s Day. She got the idea in 1909 while listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day, which was emerging as a holiday.  Dodd honored her father at the local YMCA in 1910 to recognize her father, William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran and single dad to six children.

Today, Father’s Day is celebrated across the world to honor the contribution of father’s and to celebrate the paternal bonds and the efforts of male parents towards their family and society.

A recent Father’s Day survey shows a slight increase (76 percent) in the number of American’s who will celebrate the holiday, but a decrease in how much will be spent on gifts. The official flower for Father’s Day is a white or red rose. To honor a father who is deceased it is suggested we wear a white rose, whereas we are to honor a father who is still living with a red rose.

Father’s Day falls on the third Sunday of June each year. Father’s Day 2023 will occur on Sunday, June 18.

Now here’s the main question: “What do men want for Father’s Day? According to my research, many dads want some time to themselves while others want power tools, technology, or a nice home-cooked meal. But the main thing most dads want is their families’ love, appreciation, and respect.
