DealDash Tips: How to win gift cards

Gift cards are a popular auction on DealDash.com so they are not easy to win.

Let’s take a look at the $50 Bed, Bath & Beyond gift card up for auction right now (as of this writing). After the “No New Bidders” limit was reached, I counted the competitors. Guess how many players placed at least one bid to participate in this auction?  I counted 126.

That means we each have only one chance out of 126 of winning this auction. If all of these players each put 50 bets into BidBuddy (the automated bidder), this auction would not close until it reached $63.  During a “Free-to-the-Winner” special feature, players often continue bidding over the value of the gift card. Why? When we don’t have to pay a closing cost, all we have to count is the cost of the bids we are using.

Of course, not all 126 players are going to add more than one bid and seriously compete in this auction. Many players might count how many players are participating and give up before they start. However, the players who do decide to seriously compete will most likely use more than 50 bids.

Let’s do the math.  If each of the 126 players bought a bid pack when they were on sale for 13 cents per bid, the maximum number of bids each player could place to break even would be 384. If the winner of this $50 gift card uses any more bids than that, it means that bidder actually lost more than he or she won. If the winner of this gift card uses fewer than 384 bids, it means that player won more than he or she lost.

Of course, our objective in playing on DealDash is to win more than we lose. Therefore, it most likely would be a complete waste of bids to place the bulk of our bids too early. With that many competitors, chances are very slim that the $50 gift card would close before it reaches at least $30.00.  In fact, the $50 Bed, Bath & Beyond gift card just hit $30 and there are still six serious players bidding in the  auction.

To save money on gift cards, smart players will only place bids when the auction is down to the last two or three players. The idea is to allow all of the other serious players to use up their maximum number of bids before you do. If you look to see how much this auction usually closes at, that might be the right time to join the auction with the bulk of your bids. However, keep in mind that whenever DealDash runs the “Free-to-the-Winner” auctions, the closing price usually goes up much higher.

DealDash Tips to Stop Overbidding

Image result for dealdash bidding

Finding yourself overbidding in the middle of an auction can be a little stressful. Here are some of the top DealDash tips to stop overbidding.

Are you the sort of person who just click, click, clicks the bid button when you’re in a DealDash auction? Stop that! You’re not doing yourself any favors by overbidding, and you’re probably annoying the other bidders as well. Before you find out how to stop overbidding, you’re going to have to figure out why you’re overbidding. Here are some tips fro DealDash to help.

You’re Overexcited

Are you new on DealDash? Are you still in the “oh so excited” honeymoon phase? Being overexcited is a very common reason that people tend to overbid in DealDash auctions. The way to correct this, of course, is to slow down! Think before you act. Don’t be impulsive.

Not Counting Your Bids

Along with being overexcited, another reason that you might be overbidding is that you just aren’t paying attention to how many bids that you are spending. It’s very easy to keep clicking and not pay attention to how many bids that you’re really spending. There is a simple solution to this as well – BidBuddy! BidBuddy is here for you. You don’t need to sit there and click, click, click and lose track of how many bids that you are spending. Figure out ahead of time how many bids that you want to spend on a particular auction, input that amount into the BidBuddy, and let him do the clicking for you.

Using the BidBuddy on every single auction is a smart move. Do you always use your BidBuddy? You should! In addition to helping you keep track of how many bids that you are spending, the BidBuddy can save you if your power goes out, your internet connection flickers, or your computer decides to do the dreaded “Update, install, and re-start” when you are in the middle of bidding in a DealDash auction. Be smart, use BidBuddy – every time.

Do You Know the Value of the Item?

Another reason that you might overbid in an auction is that you don’t know the actual value of the item. Every DealDash item clearly displays the retail price of the item on the auction, however, not everyone pays attention to this. You can tell that people aren’t paying attention when they end up spending $50 on a $50 item. That’s just silly because you have to take into account the price of the bids that they spent as well. Be smart and check out the value of the item before you start bidding all over the place. You will save yourself some bids, money, and aggravation as well.

DealDash Tips: Check Out the Winners’ List

Before bidding in an auction on DealDash.com it is a good idea to check out the “Winners’ List.” Why?  The “Winners’ List” provides valuable information that can help us win actions using fewer bids.

To locate the “Winners’ List,” go to the top of the home page. Near the upper right, where it shows how many bids you have left in your account, you will see the “Winners” header. If you click on it, you will see a list of the most recent winners.

The first thing I do is scroll down that list to find out who won the biggest bid packs. For example, at the time of this writing, I see that “fapromos” won a 500 bid pack 18 minutes ago, “Bearose36” won a 6,000 bid pack 35 minutes ago and “10124501” won a 1,000 bid pack 2 hours ago.  I always write down the screen names of everyone who recently won a bid pack, especially the large ones.

Then, when I double click on the auction I want to win, I check to see if any of those screen names are participating in the same auction.  If I see one of those screen names, I wait for the next auction that has the product I want.

As a senior citizen on a limited budget, I know I cannot win over a player who has a lot of bids to burn, and these players did not yet have enough time to use up all of the bids they just won.

DealDash Tips: Getting to Know the Bidders

dealdash avatar

Do you know who you’re up against? Let’s get to know the other bidders.

There are many different types of bidders on DealDash. These bidders come from the 48 contiguous states and all different walks of life. You might be up against a retired grandma, a 21-year-old college kid, and a “shark” of a lawyer, all in the same auction! It’s interesting how there are so many different types of bidders there are, you can get a small glimpse into their life from reading their little bidder bio. Along with so many different types of people come different bidding styles. Here are some tips from DealDash on spotting the different types of bidders.

The Scattered Bidder

Bidders that scatter their bids here and there seemingly without too much thought behind it aren’t usually too much of a threat, in my opinion. These bidders are usually newbies, and don’t usually realize how many bids that it might really take to win an auction. Normally these bidders will throw 10 or 15 bids into an auction manually instead of using the BidBuddy, get frustrated, and move on.

Power Bidders

Everyone knows the Power Bidders! These are the bidders that just don’t stop. The Power Bidders will bid more than the value of the auction just to prove a point. These are bidders who will bid 1,000 bids on an item that’s only worth 400 bids, just to show everyone that they’re here to win. The Power Bidders are bidders that you really don’t want to tangle with. If I were you, I’d keep a list of the Power Bidders and make it a point not to get involved in auctions with them.

Smart Bidders

It should go without saying that a smart bidder is the kind of bidder that you want to be. Smart bidders are bidders who do their research, pick the best items, and bid cautiously. Smart bidders use their BidBuddies, stay away from the Power Bidders, and don’t get too emotionally invested in the auctions. These bidders are people who tend to win regularly, and BIN (Buy It Now) regularly as well. Smart bidders know that you can’t win them all, and they can get all of their bids back as well as free shipping when they BIN an item that they know they won’t win but have invested too many bids to quit. If you’re not a smart bidder, no problem! You can start implementing the practices of a smart bidder right away, and be well on your way to winning more auctions.
