DealDash Demystified

New to DealDash and have never heard of penny auctions before?
It’s about time you did. You could be missing out on some great deals!

What Is DealDash?

DealDash.com is a pay-per bid auction, popularly known as a “penny auction.”
DealDash launched in the United States in February of 2009 and is the longest running penny auction site of its kind.
What does it mean to pay-per bid, and what’s a penny auction?
Penny auctions operate a bit differently from traditional online auctions where the last bidder to place a bid wins.
First, all auctions on DealDash start at $0.00 and have no price reserves. Each bid placed raises the auction price by $0.01 and the time on the auction clock by 10 seconds.
To bid you have to first register, next, buy bid credits.

Bids on DealDash.com are $0.60 each, but with the current Christmas Gift Clearance promotion bids are just $0.18 a piece.
Bids must be purchased in bid packs ranging  in packages of 200 ($36), 450 ($81), 950 ($171), 1,500 ($270) all the way up to 2,500 ($450).  dealdash-tutorial2
How do you win an auction?
The object of winning an auction on DealDash is to be the last bidder to bid when the timer hits 0. In other words, there must be no opposing bidders to place a bid after you have.
There’s no telling how many bids you will have to place before you win.
You could win an item with just 1 bid, or 100+ bids.
What’s the catch? There really isn’t one.
Say you’re a photographer and really want to win a new Canon lens, so far you have spent a bunch of money on bids trying to win it, and suddenly you get distracted by something else on the Internet, or your Internet connection mysteriously disconnects, bummer.
You were either already going to purchase the same lens and were just trying to score a deal, or you don’t care that you lost money. If you were wanting to purchase the lens before you started to bid, you’re in luck.

DealDash’s “Buy-it-Now” saves the day!
On DealDash if you don’t win an auction, you can use “Buy it Now” and get all of the bids you placed back for free. You can rest assured that the item is brand new and backed by the manufacturer. Payments are accepted by either credit card or PayPal.

What other items can be won?

DealDash auctions include major league baseball memorabilia, digital cameras, surveillance systems, iPads, bid pack auctions, small household kitchen appliances (Keurigs and K-Cup too!), and tools, video games, game systems, gift cards, CDs, water bottles, laundry detergent, seasonal items, kitchen tools, Bose speakers, GPS’s, laptops, iPods, and so much more.
What do you do once you’ve won?
After you win an auction be sure to go to “My dashboard” and your “Won auctions” to pay the final end price for your win. All items are shipped for free within 10 days.
How many items can you win?
You can win 6 products worth $200 or less and 3 valued at over $200 per week. Once you’re logged in there’s an indicator on the top of the site that keeps track of how many items you’ve won for you.
For 1 bid you can see who is at their “win limit.”
All items on DealDash are brand new and come with standard manufacturer warranties.

DealDash has over 2 million registered customers, won’t there be a lot of competition?

DealDash knows that the auctions are competitive, that’s why all auctions are “No Jumper” auctions. This means that after the auction price reaches $5.00, no new bidders can enter and try to win an item.

Why would you really want to even bid on a penny auction site that didn’t have buy it now? Try DealDash.com for yourself, you will see just how risk free it is!

7 Tips For Staying Focused on Your Auctions

FocusedIt’s easy to lose an auction. That is, if you’re not paying attention. Keep your eyes on the prize and don’t lose focus.

  • Don’t bid and multitask
  • Don’t bid and drive
  • Don’t bid and talk on the phone
  • Don’t bid while cooking dinner – or washing dishes – yeah, if you do that you may need to bid on a new smartphone or laptop 😉
  • Don’t bid then walk away from the computer for a minute, or even 7 seconds.
  • Don’t bid when your computer is about to do an automatic update
  • Don’t bid when you’re not paying attention

Okay, so it may seem pretty simple to stay focused on the auction you’re bidding on, but sometimes it really can be a challenge, especially if the auction has been going on for awhile.
It’s easy to get bored while bidding and even easily to open up a new tab and start browsing, playing a game or bidding in another auction even, so, with that said here are 7 tips to stay focused.
#1 Minimize Distractions
Before you start bidding make sure you are able to focus on the auction for as long as you decide you are going to watch and bid on the auction.  Set aside time to bid where you won’t get distracted. Find a quiet place to bid. Put headphones on maybe. If you have a hard time focusing on more than one thing. Turn your phone ringer off – set it to silent until the auction is over, or until you win. You’ll save yourself frustration and the other person on the line won’t be wondering why you keep freaking out.
#2 Set up BidBuddy – BidBuddy is DealDash’s automatic bidding tool that will let you set a predetermined number of bids, as many that you’d like to spend to try and win the item. It will only use your bids during the last few seconds of the timer. Others may be on BidBuddy too, and you won’t know it, but they also won’t know that you’re on bidbuddy. So set it and forget it, but really don’t forget it… Still watch and see where you’re at and how the auction is doing.
#3 Don’t multitask. Don’t open up new browsers and start surfing the Internet. Really, it’s easy to open up a new page and check something else out Online only to find when you switch back the auction ended and you lost your bids. Or – opening new browsers could freeze up your computer and not even let you get back on DealDash.
#4 Update & Clean Your Computer Make sure your computer’s software is up to date before you start bidding. A scheduled automatic update could suddenly force your computer to restart mid-auction. Also, make sure your computer is virus, spyware and adware free before you start bidding. Pop-ups and browser hijacking due to viruses and trojans will only wreck havoc, you’ll be unable to focus on an auction if you can’t get back in it. Some good, free software to use to clean your computer: AdAware, SpyBot Search & Destroy, Malwarebytes, Avast and AVG AntiVirus.

#5 Finish your chores first

Make sure dinner is already done. Laundry & dishes already started. Your homework or work obligations done. Your kids occupied or in bed. If you put off your obligations until the last minute and decide to take a break from them to bid, you are more likely to get distracted and lose an auction. So make sure that everything you need to do for the day is already taken care of before you start bidding.
#6 Train your mind to focus
Really, it seems easier than it is. It’s easy to get distracted while bidding, or while doing anything. Stop yourself if you’re beginning to lose focus. Apply this to all areas of your life, not just bidding, and you may just find more success when you manage your time and focus on the task at hand.  Start small with maybe just a few minutes a day and work up to larger amounts of time. If you find your mind wandering, just go back to bidding or whatever it is you’re working on.
#7 Set Goals and Time
Before you go into bidding write down how much money you want to spend at max to try to win an auction. Set how much time you want to spend bidding. Keep within this timeframe or budget and you will be less likely to lose focus on bidding.
What do you do to keep your eye on the prize and focus on the auction or task at hand? Tell us in the comments section!
Now is the best time to stay focused and try DealDash. Right now bids are only $0.15 each!

10 Ways to Bid Smarter On DealDash

1.  Only bid on the items on DealDash that you need or want

Especially if you’re new to DealDash – it’s a good idea to start out just bidding on items you need or want, that way if you end up spending more money on bids to win the items, you will get an item you already were planning on purchasing. Use the buy it now – you will get all of your bids back, the items will be shipped free of charge to you and come brand new in sealed packaging.
 2. Pay close attention
Do not allow yourself to get bored or distracted when you’re in the midst of bidding on an item. It only takes a second for you to switch screens on your computer, look away or answer the phone, etc. and you could very well end up letting the auction end. Set auto bid if you need a few minutes to do something else, just be sure to keep track of where that’s at.
3. Make Time for Bidding
Since it’s really not a good idea to spend money on bids when you have other things you should be doing, set aside time to bid and make sure you are free from distractions.
4. Keep Track of Your Bids and What You’re Spending
Set a budget. Write down how much money per month you are able to spend, and want to comfortably spend bidding on items at DealDash. Set a goal for how much money you can spend on bidding if you don’t win. Set amounts you will go up to before you elect to buy it now Stay within your set budget.
5. Use the autobidding feature on DealDash
Save bids, money and don’t leave your reaction time to chance (you really could miss out and let another bidder win if you didn’t click bid fast enough and the timer hits 1-0- ended.

7. Take Notes

Watch active auctions. Check out the ended auctions. Write down names, prices, items, time of day. Know your competitions.
8. Bid Later/ Bid Earlier
Try bidding early in the morning or late at night — the competition may not be as fierce.
9. Keep track of your opponents
Since all bidders are limited to winning 9 items a week, 6 items under $200 value, 3 over $200, keep track of who is at their win limit.
From your account dashboard click on “Who’s on their limit” – for just one bid, ($0.60) or if you buy bids now ($0.15) you can see a list of all of the bidders who have reached their win limits.
10. Keep track of winners
See a pattern of consistent winners? Watch what items they bid on, when and how many bids they spend to win.

Tired of Clicking and Losing? BidBuddy is DealDash Bidder's Best Friend!

You know how this little guy is said to be “Man’s best friend?”Dog
He may be man’s best friend, bid BidBuddy is bidder’s best friend! Let me tell you why…
First, I’d like to thank all of the DealDash users who have left comments, and feedback in our DealDashTips blog. We love hearing about your bidding tips and auction experiences, so keep them coming!
One tip that a lot of DealDash users have been recommending lately has been the BidBuddy feature.
Did you know about the BidBuddy feature on DealDash?
bidbuddy
The BidBuddy lets you bid on auctions, so you don’t have to keep clicking the bid button.
It will even bid for you when you’re away from the computer.
Although, I would highly suggest you stay in front of the computer, and watch the auctions if you are going to pay for bids to participate in them. We know that there may be times where you can’t get to a computer, and really wanted to bid on a particular item. That’s where BidBuddy comes in handy and may become your favorite feature on DealDash.
BidBuddy Can Save You Money
If you’re click happy and find yourself going through a lot of bids, or just tired of clicking the bid button each time. Say need to make an important phone call or anything, the BidBuddy is really helpful.
BidBuddy can even help you save money because it will place bids close to the auction’s end time. This is especially helpful because you don’t have to worry about placing a bid too close to the end time only to find when you click it and it registered in the system it was too late and the auction ends.
This is a great feature if you are prone to getting distracted during bidding, or are having problems with your Internet connection.
How do you use the BidBuddy?
It’s really quite simple.
You can use BidBuddy in any DealDash auction.
1. Add the number of bids you would like to place in the auction in the BidBuddy area right below the bid button.
2. Then, click Book a BidBuddy and the BidBuddy will bid for you up until it has used all of the bids you booked, or until you win!
A good thing about it is you can cancel the BidBuddy at any time and if you happen to win on BidBuddy the only bids you will use are the ones that were placed in the auction prior to winning.  If multiple bidders are using BidBuddy (note that it is not indicated on the auction page who is on BidBuddy or not) then all users will take turns placing bids, until the bids from all but one user’s BidBuddy run out. As soon as you book your BidBuddy one bid will be placed, the rest will be placed periodically towards the last few seconds of the auction.

See what DealDash user dlytle99 says about using BidBuddy, they have some really good tips about bididng on DealDash!
“… Make sure to first check out the site and watch several auctions before bidding on anything. Not doing that  turned out to be my biggest mistake when I first got started.
I would have saved myself a lot of money (and other bidders a lot of irritation) had I understood about using the bid buddy.
I went through all my bids and didn’t win a single thing the first day I joined.
Deal dash gave me all my bids back to try again and I won that time and since then  have won dozens of things in just the last few months but after learning the hard way. But after you start winning you also have to resist getting addicted! This is such a fun site.
Their customer service is fantastic should you need any help or have a question. I’m still waiting to see my idea of a little box somewhere on each auction indicating how many bids you have booked… :)”
Thanks dytle99!
Bidder Bonnie also likes using BidBuddy, she tells us “Please use your bid buddy if you try to wait the clock out your not going to make it the clock will win. Wait it out watch the other biders see how many are in the auction and there is no harm waiting till the next auction everything is up again sometimes in the next few minutes especially bid packs be courteous to others always in every way.”
These are great tips! And Bonnie, that is a great recommendation!
