Read the Descriptions

“What you see is what you get.” Flip Wilson first coined that phrase on TV in the 1960s and later used it in his own show in the 1970s, but its origin dates back long before that.

You might ask, “What does this quote have to do with shopping on DealDash.com and/or is it true?” Well, maybe it is and maybe it’s not.

Auction Photos

DealDash does an excellent job of posting clear photos, so most of the time I think that just looking at the photos is good enough for me. I only read the description if I never saw the product before and don’t know what it is or what it does.

Before we start shopping on DealDash, however, it might be a good idea to read the descriptions of the auction products, too.

Auction Descriptions

By reading the descriptions we learn a lot more about the auction products than we do by simply looking at the photos.

For example, I once placed a lot of bids on a projector screen that I did not win, so I did a BIN (Buy-It-Now) to get all my bids back free. That was a huge mistake because I failed to read the description. Therefore, I ended up with an expensive product that I did not really want. I wanted a smaller, mobile screen with legs that I could take in my car and set up at various locations. Instead I got a huge screen that was meant to be permanently installed in one place. It came with a lot of complicated hardware to mount to a wall and roll up and down.

It was my own fault that I ended up with a product I could not use because I failed to read the description. If I had read the description of the movie screen, I would not have placed bids on it in the first place because it was not the kind of screen I wanted.

Customer Reviews

Besides reading the description of the auction product before we start bidding, we can also read customer reviews. By reading the product descriptions and reviews, we could avoid wasting money on products we never use.

Curiosity did not kill the cat (on DealDash!)

When shopping on DealDash.com one of the most important qualities for successful bidders to have is a strong sense of curiosity.

You might ask, “But didn’t curiosity kill the cat?” My answer: “No.” What we do not know can and does hurt us, so I believe having a strong sense of curiosity is a healthy characteristic, not a bad one. After all, isn’t it because of our natural sense of curiosity that we learn anything in the first place?

I grew up with lots of sayings and my mom had a quote for every situation, but not all of those sayings made sense. Most of them were very helpful, but “curiosity killed the cat” was not one of them. Some of my favorite helpful sayings were:

  • “When the going gets tough, the tough get going!”
  • “Those who row the boat don’t have time to rock it!” and
  • “When you feel like giving up (quitting), remember the giant oak tree. It started out as just a little nut that held its ground.”

Benefits

Many of us started bidding from the home page, but our natural sense of curiosity quickly made us stop and ask questions. Therefore, we soon learned how to find and use BidBuddy, which saved us a lot of bids and frustration.

Yesterday I was shocked to see a customer who joined DealDash in 2012 and that customer was still cutting the clock and wasting bids by bidding from the home page. Perhaps some customers might lack a healthy sense of curiosity. When we are curious, and we see something is not working well, we stop and ask questions. When we ask questions, we get answers.

Having a strong sense of curiosity has many other benefits as well. By asking questions and reading blogs, we develop many new strategies and win more auctions.

If you’re a DealDash fan then you must like a lot of things about the site. Here are some of the features that I think are the best.

BidBuddy is the Best

No matter if you are a recent bidder or an “old hand” at the bidding game, many people would agree that the BidBuddy is one of the best features that DealDash offers. The BidBuddy will bid for you when you don’t have time to sit in front of the computer and babysit the auction you are interested in. Here are the easy directions to use the BidBuddy:

  1. Choose an auction
  2. Find the box in the auction that says “Book a BidBuddy”
  3. Type in the number of bids as you are willing to spend on an auction
  4. Hit Enter

The Variety of Auctions is the Best

DealDash is truly one-stop shopping for your whole family. There are things for babies such as cribs and strollers. There are things for kids and teens such as toys and video games. Seniors and adults, there are lots of things for you as well, from gardening to electronics to small kitchen appliances. Some other auction sites out there only have one type of item, such as gift cards, but DealDash has the biggest variety around.

Get the Best Customer Service

When you contact DealDash customer service you aren’t just a number – you’re a special bidder that needs a little assistance. There are two easy ways to get in touch with customer support, and they both begin with you clicking the big yellow “Contact Support” button at the bottom of the main auction home page, on the right-hand side. From there, you can either send an email to support, or you can do live chat.

Either way works, it just depends on how pressing your issue is, and if you mind waiting a few hours for an answer versus immediate gratification. No matter which way you choose, you will be connected with a friendly and DealDash savvy customer support agent that will be able to answer your question.
